Music

God formed humanity in His likeness. Part of God’s likeness is creativity. Music allows people to express their souls to God and to one another.  TC students are encouraged to develop their creative skills of music to their utmost potential. They also develop a better appreciation of God’s creativity in creating music through our music curriculum which includes general music, music theory, choral, and band instrumentation.

Preschool & Pre-kindergarten

You are never too young to start experiencing God's gift of music!  Our littlest eagles in preschool and pre-kindergarten attend weekly music classes that focus on singing, movement, rhymes, and storytelling. They also begin to play with and learn about various classroom instruments such as BoomWhackers, egg shakers, maracas, rhythm sticks and more!  Students are then given the opportunity to share their learning and joy of music through the Grandparents Day and end of year celebration performances.

Elementary Music

Our elementary students will experience God’s gift of music through singing and playing various Orff instruments (glockenspiels, metallophones, and xylophones), as well as, handchimes, recorders, BoomWhackers, drums, and other percussion instruments. They are also given many opportunities to glorify God through various performances including Grandparents Day, Chapel, the kindergarten and 1st grade spring program, the 2nd & 3rd grade spring musical, the 4th & 5th grade Christmas musical, and the 6th grade band concerts.

Beginning Band
Beginning Band is comprised primarily of 5th and 6th grade students who are learning instruments for the first time.  Students begin with instrument basics, note and rhythmic reading, and basic song writing.  Every student participates in an annual performance at the end of the school year.

6th Grade Choir
This choir is a beautiful blend of choral ensemble and general music, and music theory.  Students perform primarily two -part music, but occasionally will join with the junior high to perform more advanced literature.

Junior High Music

In junior high music, students to continue to grow in their God-given talents and abilities in music.  Each of our electives are designed to optimize each individual's learning style.  Students elect to be a part of our general music program, choir, or junior high band.
General Music
Students interested in the history and mechanics of music may enroll in General Music.  This class is designed to expose students to the beauty and mathematics of music without the performance requirement.

Choir
Students interested in singing and performance can participate in Junior High Choir. At this level, the junior high choir performs primarily three-part and SAB music, while being taught music theory with a particular emphasis toward developing the individual's ability to read music, or "sight-read." Students perform at an annual concert.

Band
Students participate in daily band practice/rehearsal and perform high level literature pieces. Students in junior high band are invited to continue into marching band and pep band in high school.  Band students perform at selected football and basketball games and an annual concert.

Praise Team
Toledo Christian has a long tradition of having an exceptional praise team.  The Praise Team performs every week at our school’s junior high and high school chapel services.  From its origins many years ago, to the days when the popular Christian music group Sanctus Real walked our hallways as students, to the present, the goal of the Praise Team has remained consistent – to worship and glorify God, and, through His gift of music, bring people to the wonderful light and love of Christ.

High School Music

The high school is the capstone of the music experience here at Toledo Christian.  Students in music are encouraged to continue pursuing their God-given gifts and talents in music at an advanced level.  There are several music options that students may choose as electives starting their freshman year through senior year.
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is the instrumental group at TC. The group is open to all students grades 9-12, and, when appropriate, has occasionally accepted advanced middle school students. Wind Ensemble season runs from the end of October through the remainder of the school year. The group performs 2-3 concerts annually, as well as competing at the ACSI, OMEA, or Heritage music festivals each year. The Wind Ensemble has a strong tradition of excellence in competition and has been invited to take part in prestigious music festivals nationwide.

Marching and Pep Band
The Toledo Christian Marching Eagles is the school’s marching band. The group performs at all home football games in the fall, pep rallies, and various other events throughout the early part of the year, culminating with a Marching Band concert at the end of the marching season (usually late October). A new extension of our marching band this year is the TC Pep Band. The pep band is an Ivy League-style athletic band which plays for various boys and girls basketball games during the winter sports season. All members of the High School Wind Ensemble are required to also take part in the Pep Band, with certain exceptions made for competing athletes.

Concert Choir
The Concert Choir is the main choral ensemble at the high school level. Concert Choir is open to all students grades 9-12, and performs primarily the traditional four-part SATB literature. The group has competed annually at either ACSI, OMEA, or Heritage music festivals for more than a decade, as well as performing 3-4 concerts annually.
