Elementary (K-6)

Kindergarten - Grade 6

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."
-Antoine de Saint-Exupery

One can be educated for a test or educated for life.  It is our desire at Toledo Christian to foster a love of learning and a deep base of knowledge that will continue to grow year after year.  We do this through focusing our curriculum in the grammar stage (Kindergarten through sixth grade) on tangible things in a child's world, and feeding into a young child's hunger for knowing.  Our educational philosophy is three-fold:  develop the mind, develop the heart, develop them for the future.

Curriculum

Our Christian classical curriculum focuses on recognizing God’s truth, goodness, and beauty in all things.  In the grammar stage, our curriculum is designed to meet a young child’s inherent desire to know everything.  We welcome the consistent “why” questions and work to fill each student with information that they will build on for the rest of their lives.   Each grade level’s content is specially chosen for the developmental needs and interest levels of the students.

Academic Activities

A well-rounded education goes beyond the regular classroom walls.  In addition to our daily schedule, students also participate in weekly computer coding and keyboarding enrichment, an annual school-wide speech competition, Continental Math League, and various academic clubs after school.

Higher Ground Program

The Higher Ground program is designed to provide identified gifted and talented students with increased stimulation and creative challenges necessary to reach their fullest God-given potential.  Students meet weekly and investigate hands-on exploration in the scientific fields of chemistry, physics, and biomimetics.  Students also participate in the Continental Mathematics League, study Koine Greek, develop skills in computer technology, and our fourth and fifth graders in performing arts.

Academic Counseling & Guidance

Striving to meet the academic, spiritual, and social/emotional needs of all of our students, we offer academic and counseling support services.  Students who demonstrate the need for reading support receive daily instruction in Reading Club, our reading intervention program, and if determined, one-on-one Orton-Gillingham tutoring by certified instructors.  Our Student Services Coordinator meets with small groups of students or one-on-one, offering guidance services.

Toledo Christian is also a John Peterson provider, with an on-site Intervention Specialist to provide tailored care to John Peterson students.

Student Life

Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities both inside and outside the classroom.  Students are encouraged to “think big” as the second through fifth grade classes present projects at school-wide events.  These events include the second grade Rainforest Cafe, the third grade Young Authors’ Day, the fourth grade Economic Expo, and the fifth grade Wax Museum.  Sixth graders spend all year practicing servant leadership in a special program called Sixth Grade Scholars. All students, kindergarten through fifth grade participate in a musical production during the year, while the sixth graders participate in either beginning band or beginning choir.

After school, the opportunities continue through elementary athletics (running, basketball, football, cheerleading), Young Rembrandt’s Art Club, Kingdom Kids Show Choir, Spark Your Noodle Robotics,  Spark Your Noodle Drama Club, Spark Your Noodle Adventure (STEM) Club, Girls on the Run, and American Heritage Girls.

ACCSThe Grammar Stage (PK - 6) of the Classical Christian education involves memorization of basic facts about a subject and is taught to younger children who naturally love to chant, recite, and memorize.
